Marseille Class Light Cruiser
The Marseille class Light Cruiser was designed to replace earlier Light Cruiser with a substantially more modern and powerful ship. With extensive upgrades to onboard weapons, protection, and speed, enabling them to substantially outperform the earlier cruiser units. This has enabled them to operate more effectively in their intended role as fleet escorts, scouting units, raiding units, and commerce protection ships.
Length for the ships is approximately 180 meters, with a width of 18 meters, and a draught of 6.2 meters. Like most cruisers it has a somewhat raised forward deck area, although the remaining area of the ship is mostly in line with this with it being raised above a secondary deck region. There are two onboard smokestacks, angled backwards slightly. The command bridge is located to the fore as well, behind the two forward turrets.
The main battery of the ship is composed of 150mm/50 guns. These are positioned in dual turrets, with 2 forward and two to the rear, and are designed to superfire- enabling a heavy amount of firepower to be directed forward, and to the rear of the ship, as well as an even larger amount of broadside firepower.
A secondary armament is composed of 76.2mm/50 guns. There are 6 of these, which are located amidships, and are designed to be able to target enemy air, or enemy surface forces. With a high rate of fire, they provide an important defensive capability, and are highly effective against aerial targets with modern anti-air directors. There some machine guns onboard as well, with 2 quad and 1 double 13.5 machine guns.
There are some onboard torpedo mounts as well. 4 triple 500 mm torpedoes are provided, which are arrayed behind the 76.2 mm guns. They are highly effective against enemy warships, and with their trainable mounts can effectively engage most surface units at long ranges. Being a light cruiser, they're the only weapons onboard that would be capable of taking on large capital ship units.
Propulsion is provided by onboard turbines, with a design specification of 96,000 horsepower. Combined with the ship's weight this is enough to enable it to reach 32 knots, an improvement over previous cruisers. There are 3 turbines, and 6 boilers for the ship. The ship has an endurance of 7,500 kilometers at 16 knots.
Protection includes an armored belt, turrets, gun shields, and an armored deck, as well as internal sub-division. The armored belt of the ship is 90mm. The deck is 35mm thick, while the magazine has 95mm thick sides. The gun shields also provide splinter protection, while the turrets have 90mm armored fronts, and 40mm armored sides.
