The Military Colonies

Preparation for war and the state of siege mentality which has gripped the Suesdyian confederation has led to the innovation of a new defensive policy - the ring-system outposts, supposed to provide a ring of systems which both provide for new colonial activity, and which also provide for additional strategic buffer space and defensive reaction. The analysis of information relayed from the battles which took place at Dadinirt has revealed pertinent facts concerning at least one race of hostile aliens, which must be responded to. 1)The enemy is extremely effective at close ranges, relying upon powerful laser and kinetic energy weapons. 2)They have substantial star fighter units which they use as reconnaissance assets and in attack roles. 3)They are extremely focused upon boarding and attacking enemies in close ranged combat. It is impossible for the Suesdyians to be strong everywhere. No clan can afford the resources needed to fortify every system with a fleet capable of standing ...

The Lost Daughter

Selucreh clutched the hands of Suetemorp as they tensed and limp, then rigid again, cooling save for the part which he held, his claws retracted to hold the even paler skin of his gene-gifter. It felt like a part of him was vanishing, as the ancient man finally left this realm. He stayed in the dimly lit chamber until the last warmth had fled the dead body save for the spot warmed by his hand. He watched, silently, not knowing the time that passed by, until at last Sulecreh stirred, standing, stiff from the long... minutes? hours? that he had passed with the dying man. He passed out of the chamber door. An aide stood next to it, and without looking at him he ordered "Dispose of the body." "Yes sir." The door opened and closed once more with a quiet whir as the aide went through it, and Selucreh walked onward to the external bridge. Slowly his thoughts began to reassert themselves in his mind, clawing themselves back from the black pit of - it was hard to quant...

The Daughters of Nires

Since the Suesdyians first reached the stars beyond their own, they have been setting up a variety of colonized systems. These tend to be rather similar, with extensive mineral resources or some sort of scientific anomaly which has attracted settlement, although some stand out. Each clan has colonized these systems individually, although all formally belong to the united Confederation. Imperial clan: Sipirian - New Nires New Nires was the first founded of the Sipirian Imperial clan's colonies, orbiting around a red giant star, picked due to the unusual concentration of ancient mineral resources present in the asteroid belt from this very old star. It has been the target of a significant exodus of personnel to the system, particularly younger nobility and other mid-ranking positions, aiming to relieve internal pressure at home for promotion and status through exile to the stars. This has raised its population up to several score million, alongside the even larger groups of work...

Long Live the Navy! Defend the Fatherland in Peril!

The Suesdyian confederation has been shaken to its core by the events which have transpired recently. First, there was the detection of some sort of alien species, who hailed an imperial clan exploration ship, and then there was an attack - seemingly by a different species given the differing nature of their technology - on the system of Dadinirt. This attack, faced by only a few cruisers and limited minefields, succeeded in crushing resistance and rapidly capturing the world. Dadinirt was of limited value, although there were embryonic research and shipyard facilities there which unfortunately had to be destroyed, but it shows that there is definitively an enemy out there - seeking to destroy the Suesdyians and to conquer them, seemingly regardless of clan. A feeling of general terror has gripped the Confederation. All of the clans have massively stepped up warship production, with each one putting their individual military fleets on major expansion courses, minefields being laid at...

First Contact with the Aliens

Suchamelet groaned. Everything had been going so well - exploration efforts which had found new mineral resources, no mechanical breakdowns, and now they were going home having finished their mission. He had been looking forward to his promotion, favor from the Emperor, command of a quiet colonization mission, and being able to leave behind this damnable business of space exploration. And now he was the one who was in charge of making first contact with.... these... aliens. They had jumped into the system at the end of his watch, as they were preparing to go elsewhere, following up on the reconnaissance work of a previous exploration ship for final certification for colonization, and sensor reports put them on an intersection course. An intersection course to trap him... well, he was already trapped. Lots of paperwork and forms to fill out, and even worse if it went wrong then his head would roll. They had been concerned about this for a long time, as the exploration and colonization...

The Celestial Exodus

For most of the tens of thousands of years that the Suesdyians have spent in space, there has been no real problem with population density. Space has been lacking, resources few, wars have consumed both lives and treasure in flame, and the overall population, despite its potential, rarely has budged upwards - and when it has, it has most often been followed by a crash. For the first time in living memory, perhaps in all of history, the Suesdyians have been united, and have been for many decades now, under the leadership of the emperor Sihgneg IV as the current leader. This has meant that at last a relative degree of peace has been assured to the Suesdyians, and the population, freed from its previous shackles of war, conflict, and the devotion of resources to military affairs, has undergone a massive spike. This has resulted in an unprecedented phenomenon: major over-crowding on Nires, as the population has begun to fill up the usable sections of the asteroid belts that define habita...

The Flowers of Nothing

The stars were cold and distant amidst the heavens. Even the closest one still only blazed in distant glory, with nothing but a pale light falling upon the chilly grey steel of the industrial complex. Lights danced and flickered from bays where half-built ships lay in their cradles, welding and construction work, while the sleepier and softer glow of living lights peeked out of the darkness on the habitation quarters next to it. In space the vacuum made everything clear, crystal like, but the structure was cast in shadow and only dimly visible. Special Construction Project X54 was a project of the Hujaka clan. The Hujakahad been given a colonization sector heading North-East, and had developed the colonial system of Sirap. The most interesting of their discoveries however, was something which had only revealed its importance quite long after the fact: a rogue world which they had named X54, as the 54th planet that they discovered. Light years away from any star, and with limited grav...

The Revolt of Suetemorp

To read the classics, to know history, to care about the past, is an invitation to disaster, for one must always face the terrible conundrum that history is made by those who do not study the past, and one is obliged to see the course of history roll onwards, in blithe disregard for all of one's pretensions to understand it and to change what had come. Suetemorp was an odd man to be selected to lead the Jirakirai exploration project. He got it due to being ingratiated with the clan's leader, Urkrian, a distantly related - as far as that term could be applied to the Suesdyians, with their asexual reproduction, but his biological line had been closely associated with the clan leadership since time immemorial. He had undergone his naval training of course, and he had passed with flying colors, and nobody questioned his competence. But there But at the same time everything knew there was something off about him: his romantic obsession with the past, his study of the ancient langu...

The Colonization of Egathen

Sellicha remained impassive as the whirling chaos of hyperspace suddenly vanished and was replaced with the star-spotted field of regular dimensions. Those who didn't know him might think that it was his aura of command: the truth was he simply didn't see much. Even for a Suessdyian his vision could only be called poor, and the stars appeared at most as pinpricks of light, despite the crystal clear screen of battle-glass on the external command bridge, and the void of space which enabled their light to shine so brilliantly even light years away. But it was less important what he did see than what the sensors provided, as masts unfolded and took in light from the star, spectrum analysis was conducted, and active radar waves were sent out, while the steady rumble of the engines was felt under his feet as the ship began to move from its position far in the outer reaches of the solar system, beyond the hyper-limit, towards the inner zone where he hoped to find the necessary ingre...

Suessydian Exploration

The recent development of the hyperdrive for the Suessyde Confederqtion can without a doubt be declared as the most momentous and important event in the history of the Suessdyian civilization, greater perhaps even than the Unification Wars, since the destruction of the planet of Nires by the fatal asteroid impact. The hyperdrive has opened up the heavens to exploration, colonization, discover, and if aliens are found after all, to conquest. It has been too long of peace, the first time of peace that the Suessdyians can remember, in a history which has seen eternal war and conflict, and the increase in population and the feuds between the clans has begun to put pressure upon the rule of the Emperor. At last, an activity that the enterprises of the Confederation and its clans can be directed towards has materialized, to colonize the stars and to spread their life force and influence outward. All of the clans are aware of this. They know that the future of the Suesdyians is among the...
