Opium for thee, but not for me!

Opium. It is a beautiful flower the poppy, from whence this poison originates, which makes it all the more horrifying to see the effects that such a deadly drug has upon its users, who waste away in their dens more like animals then men. The capitalists and the imperialists have long used Opium as an attempt to crush the spirit of the East Asian peoples, fighting wars to force our Chinese brothers to take it, and using it as a base for their revenue and for their oppression in Vietnam. This went so far as a government monopoly over opium, thus simultaneously serving the advantage to the French of poisoning our people and making a profit off of it. Up to a quarter of the state budget was funded by opium pre-war. It is clear that this can continue no longer. Does not the eight-fold path teach that one should reject craving, greed, avarice, and excessive pleasure, to focus on a middle path? Opium is without doubt a spoke in the wheel of the eight-fold path, turning away people from the ...

Be strong in peace just as one fights in war!

Vietnamese people! We have at last thrown out the imperialist and colonial rulers who sought to control and to oppress us. We have won a glorious victory, and the celebrations still sound throughout our land from the north to the south, as a people fired with victory embrace each other with joy. They are right to do so, to celebrate such a triumph, one for which we have all worked so hard. The peasants have produced diligently for the war effort and incurred the most horrific of French reprisals: they have formed the backbone of our nation. Monks have studied, learned, and taught, forming the intelligentsia which will lead us forwards towards enlightenment. Workers have labored to produce war material and to keep our armies fighting. Infantry have braved the harshness of the trenches, in the most wretched and terrible of conditions. Artillerymen have dragged their guns over the highest mountains, to defeat the enemy. Cavalry have ranged long and far despite their exhaustion, to liber...

The Silver Screen against the Red Screen

Communism, that malignant force which seeks to throttle away the forces of liberty and of tradition. It seeps into every vein of our society, like a poison, corrupting and destroying the flesh that it touches, until nothing is left but a diseased corpse. Against this plague our valiant forces fight for Vietnam, for liberty, and for Bao Dai's palaces and wine cel- err, I mean, for our noble leadership! On the field of battle, our glorious soldiers are defeating Communist forces in inconceivable numbers, fighting against the odds for Vietnam and for the ideals of the French Union. The Communists, creatures of the shadows, cannot stand against our great army, and they will be forced to retreat to their abodes like the rats and cockroaches that they are. But, unfortunately, many Vietnamese are seduced by the sweet and treacherous lies that the honey-tongued Communists spread. In the rural villages, where there is absolutely no problem whatsoever with land distribution, Communists enc...

Promoting Vietnamese literacy

Vietnam has the unfortunate nature of suffering from inadequate literacy, which is at barely 10% of the population. The vast majority of the country does not know how to write, nor read. The French have oppressed us, attempting to keep the country uneducated and stupid, and have instead of schools built prisons. Furthermore they have focused on the education of an elite which is hostile to us, further reducing the number of literates in our ranks. If Vietnam is to truly break free of colonialism and rectify its backwardness, it is necessary to pursue an important program of education which will solve the internal lack of literacy among our population. Only therefor will we be able to advance to the next stage of history, and to be able to educate our people about the true meaning of the eight-fold path. Thankfully, we do have the advantage that Vietnamese is easy to learn, and has an efficient writing system. This aids us in the promotion of our mass literacy campaign (Bình Dân Học V...

Buddhist Communism

There is no soul to Man. As the great Buddha has taught us, there is no such thing as human nature. Would one be so foolish as to search for a soul, for a being, in a chariot, in a compilation of many parts? Just like a chariot, humankind is composed of parts which create the being. The physical form (rupa) Feelings or sensations (vedana) Ideations (sanna) Mental formations or dispositions (sankhara) Consciousness (vinnana) The Occident teaches that Man is endowed with a certain nature, unchangeable and permanent, which condition man from one generation to another, over the age of time. The religions of the occident, these oppiates of the masses that Marx warned about, that accept god and silly superstitions, who ally themselves with the classes of money to oppress the workers and peasants, stand fervently in the defense of human nature. Man was according to them made in the "image of god" but fell from grace to corruption when Adam and Eve fell to sin. Be it origi...

Section française de l'union de l'indépendence vietnamienne

The Revolution in Indochina continues to bring victory after victory to the workers and peasants of Vietnam. Long live the great Lenin! Long live the sacred eight fold path! However, it is clear that there must be efforts made to attempt to encourage the French to grant independence to Vietnam, through political action in the Metropole. Insufficient action has been placed upon this vital vector for the development of the UIV's activities, despite the fact that there is a substantial Vietnamese population in France. Resultantly, it has been decided to form a French section of our party to attempt to rally them to our cause. Several scores of thousands of Vietnamese people have settled, or have been settled in France. They have come for education often, from the Mandarin and elite classes, particularly before the Great War. These groups are difficult to wield to our cause, given that they are tied at the hilt to their class loyalties and the French. However, there have also been la...

Rise Up, Wretched of the Earth!

Observe how following the cataclysmic bloodletting and destruction of the late Imperialist and Capitalist War, the so-called "Great War", that once again the reactionaries fight among themselves! Just as Lenin himself said, the Imperialists are driven by the logic of their capitalist structure to war and conflict. Inherently, imperialism drives nations and peoples to conflict with each other as the rate of profit begins to fall in society, and as the capitalist world destroys itself in its desperate search for its salvation. Within Europe, the working classes rise up against this, as the red flags sortie forth in England, to the the terror of the bourgeois order. The capitalist system provides for its own contradictions which will bring about its demise.  For those who suffer under the yoke of colonialism, regard how the capitalist powers fight among themselves for your land. The Portuguese, in their search for new markets and soils, strike against the Spanish. Mindles...

Vietnamese political program

Following in the footsteps of the great Lenin, who liberated from the reactionaries, imperialists, and capitalists, the great people of Russia, the Buddhist Democratic Republic of Vietnam has laid out its program for the liberation of the country from the French imperialists. Vietnam must be free, both internally and externally, free to follow the great road of socialism in the spirit of Buddhism, which will lead to the liberation and the enlightenment of the people in line with the scientific principles of the Marxist-Buddhist path. We must embark on a great socialist-Buddhist program, building off the rational and scientific principles of both, which will enable the evolution to socialism and then to communism in Vietnam. 1)The full independence of Vietnam. We demand that Vietnam be completely independent from the French, as its own nation, free to make its own decisions. The protectorates of Annam and Tonkin, and the French direct territory of Cochinchina, will receive full in...

Vietnamese Red Air Force

At the present time, the Buddhist Democratic Republic of Vietnam has no air force. This is entirely the reserve of the imperialists, who bomb daily the homes and villages of the workers and peasants of Vietnam, cowardly attacking us from the air. Against this, the People's Army of Vietnam has made efforts to expand air-defense forces, with anti-aircraft batteries to protect the Vietnamese against the attacks of the foreign imperialists. This is starting to yield results, as the flaming wreckage of French bombers attests, but there is still much work to do. Vietnam will never truly be the master of her own air until she has an air force. Thus, we must task ourselves with building up a true Red Air Force, the dragons of the air, who will prevent our people from ever again falling victim to the threats of foreign imperialism. Unfortunately, the task of building up an air force is a lengthy one. Yes yes, a bourgeois capitalist American movie film makes it all seem very easy, simply g...
